Motor technology has become much more mature and prevalent in recent years. However, international energy efficiency groups view it as a major focus due to its high power consumption. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) defines four energy efficiency classes for motors, from IE1 to IE4. In terms of variable speed motor efficiency, the levels are classified as IE1 ~ IE5.
In addition to the energy efficiency standards of motors, the relevant energy regulations have resulted in a gradual change of high-performance motor utilization. With more countries implementing energy related policies and past motors being replaced, the market share of high-performance motors is increasing. Regarding extensive systems like motor drives, some countries have proposed a regulatory blueprint to accomplish energy saving and carbon reduction goals.
